Word of Mouth Cincinnati (WoMC), a literary event consisting of both an Open Mic and a Feature Performance, runs the last Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. upstairs at MOTR Pub.
Word of Mouth Cincinnati, which began in January 2014, is co-hosted by fellow writers Jim Palmarini and Mark Flanigan. It was founded in memory of the late Aralee Strange who, after many years living, writing and producing work in the Cincinnati area, moved to Athens, Georgia where she co-founded Athens Word of Mouth.
WoMC is an intentional arc of both past and future utterance, inspired by our most revered voice, with a nod to her Athens, GA compatriots. Word of Mouth asks poets to Show Up, Mouth Off and Pay Attention.
Our feature on April 25, 2017 consists of Poets from the School for the Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) Creative Writing Program.
SCPA is a world-class public K-12 arts school where dedicated students prepare for a lifelong involvement in artistic and scholastic pursuits.
The mission of SCPA is to foster independent thinking in a creative and challenging environment. By providing a diversified curriculum and environment for bright and talented individuals, it seeks to offer preparation for higher education and professions in the arts.
SCPA’s Creative Writing Program is available to students in grades 4-12. Directed by Wendy Braun, the program’s students have been awarded more than fifty Ohio Scholastic Writing awards as part of the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition.

Solomon Booker is a junior creative writing major at SCPA. He’s been part of the program since his freshmen year. Solomon enjoys working on poems and novels and plans to pursue writing as a career after he graduates in 2018.
Lauren Mendez is a senior creative writing major at SCPA. She’s been part of the program since the 5th grade. Lauren recently was awarded two gold keys in Ohio’s National Scholastics Creative Writing competition and two of her poems are being reviewed as part of the National Scholastics award program. Lauren enjoys writing poetry and prose derived from stream-of-consciousness.
Camryn Morrow (pictured) is a junior creative writing major at SCPA. She’s been part of the program since the 7th grade. Camryn specializes in short form prose and poetry. Her poems often express ideas and thoughts that enable her to share her true voice.
