OSNR PRESENTS: UNDERWORLD JAZZ FESTIVAL

After some years touring the world and discovering music from all parts of the world and all supposed genres, I come home longing. I long not for a duplication of what I’ve seen on stages in Finland, England or France, but for our own cultivation and fearless celebration of what was started here. In large part I’m thinking in terms of the musical offspring of field songs and gospel. Some people call it Jazz, so I’ll refer to it as Jazz for the sake of identification. It’s important though that the connection be understood, stated and restated. This music came from the beak Paul Lawrence Dunbar and Maya Angelou’s “caged bird”. So when artist around the world create or perform Jazz, Country, Funk, Rock, Hip-hop or Trap they are echoing some Blues that the “caged bird sang”.

This festival is at once a call to arms, an open workshop, a revolt, a celebration, a family reunion and an initiation.
